How often should you wash your hair? Great question! There is a fine line between good hygiene and too much of a good thing. Something as simple as over washing your hair can in fact have a negative effect on the condition of your hair.
Unless you have really oily hair, you should give your head a rest for at least a day between washes. Our head excretes natural oils that coat our hair and sinks through many layers to keep it healthy and strong.
However this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop washing all together. People of different races and ethnicities may have different hair care needs. If you’re someone with very fine, straight hair, you can get away with washing your hair every other day. However, if your hair is thick and coarse you can go two or even three days between washings. When choosing a shampoo, it’s important to try to avoid using one that contains sulphates such as: Sodium Laureth Sulphate and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. These sulphates in shampoos are used as a cleaning agent for the hair and if over used it can strip away the natural oils resulting in weakened, damaged hair.
If you absolutely can’t stand going one day without shampooing, try using a dry shampoo such as TIGI Bed Head Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo. This product will absorb all your natural oils without having to take a shower or even use water. Simply spray onto your roots and massage into your scalp leaving your hair feeling fresh and rockin one more night!
