Shaping Sound Dance Company’s Premiere Showcase
By Stephanie Magallanes
The passion for contemporary dance brought together four exceptionally talented dancers to create Shaping Sound, a fresh new dance company on Los Angeles. They describe their company as “…a collaboration of diverse artists who share a common motif of being visual musicians.” The company’s founders consist of “So You Think You Could Dance” Season 1 winner Nick Lazzarini, Emmy nominated and Season 1 runner-up Travis Wall alongside dancers/choreographers Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson. These four best friends are joined by other SYTYCD cast mates and some of LA’s finest dancers to form this dazzling company. On Tuesday May 8th, 2012 ‘Come Together’ premiered at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, California. The production had five parts: manipulate, aspire, surrender, prevail and the finale resilience. Each part of the show featured routines to music of complete opposite spectrums such as Deadmau5 track ‘Raise Your Weapon’ in the Introduction to Chet Bakers’ rendition of ‘My Funny Valentine’. Each song highlighted wonderful contemporary and classical dance techniques in ways that made even the slightest beat prominent. It even made the crowd appreciate and understand the glitchy sounds of dub-step! The response was spectacular with standing ovations after every number and brought smiles and tears to all.
A diverse crowd consisted of dancers like Sharna Burgess, Choreographer of “Dancing With the Stars”, Kenny Wormald of “Footloose”, and even a few celebrities like Ricki Lake of “Hairspray”, Candace Cameron Bure of “Make it or Break It” to name a few.
