Electronic Daisy Carnival 2012: The Guide
MUSIC | U.S. FESTIVAL GUIDES
By Stephanie Magallanes
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC)
1 magical city, 3 days, 7 stages and over 230,000 attendees make EDC Las Vegas North America’s largest electronic music festival.
Named ‘Americas Ibiza’ The Electronic Daisy Carnival is approaching its 15th year as an electronic music festival. Back in 1997, the first EDC was held at The Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California. Believe it or not the festivals original capacity was only a measly 3500 people! Add another zero to that number and you’ll be closer to the expectancy of this years’ number of ticket holders. In previous years, multiple unique SoCal venues have played host to the annual electronic music festival. These include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park in Los Angeles, National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, Lake Dolores Water park in Mark Lapro Barstow, Hansen Dam in Sylmar, and the International Agri-Center in Tulare. In 2011 the festival moved its residency to The Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. This years’ event will be held the weekend of June 8th-10th.
In a recent press release Pasquale Rotella, founder and CEO of Insomniac Events shared some of his thoughts and projections on this years’ fest. “As dance music continues to explode on a global scale, we’ll continue to push the boundaries of what makes Insomniac unique: a fully immersive festival experience that features hundreds of theatrical performers, interactive art installations, pyrotechnics and special effects, state of the art production, not to mention the largest stage in North America.”
Some of the highlights added to their multi-sensory experience include The Blue Man Group, first US appearance by European hard style dance group Q-dance, and an interactive carnival experience with rides and theatrical performances.
